Paysandu is a Brazilian football club located in Belém, Pará. Paysandu is also known as Papão da Curuzu. Papão because they won several titles in the 1940s and Curuzu because this is the name of the street where Paysandu's stadium is located in.

The traditional kit, composed of a blue and white vertical striped shirt, blue shorts and blue shirts was designed by Hugo Leão, the first president of the club, on February 10, 1914. This kit was approved without a dissentient vote by the General Assembly of the club on February 19, 1914.

Paysandu's stadium is Mangueirão, built in 1978, with a maximum capacity of 54,600 people.

Paysandu is the most successful club in Northern Brazil, having won 41 State Leagues, 1 Regional League (Copa Norte in 2002) and 3 national titles (Brazilian League Second Division in 1991 and 2001 and the Brazilian Champions' Cup in 2002).

Paysandu called the world's attention in 2003 when they had a brilliant campaign in Copa Libertadores de América, beating several traditional South American teams such as Cerro Porteño and Boca Juniors (at La Bombonera).

1914 Members of Norte Club protest against a decision of the football federation of Pará benefiting Remo and fold the club. After this, they found Paysandu.

1939 State champion. The team is nicknamed Esquadrão de Aço (Steel Squadron).

1948 The journalist Everando Guilhon nicknames the club Papão da Curuzu, after Curuzu Street ("Rua Curuzu"). Curuzu Street is the address of the club's headquarters.
